About
Douglas Crockett is a Black American artist originally from Detroit, Michigan. A self-taught artist, he began doing acrylic on canvas paintings while on lockdown during the pandemic in June of 2020. During this period of time, he was also on the run from the law for a misdemeanor offense and struggled with substance abuse so he started painting as a way to creatively express the multitude of emotions he was feeling. Ultimately, he was able to sober up and sort out his legal matters while continuing to perfect his craft as an artist. Douglas Crockett's artwork gives one a look into his inner thoughts while also giving his perspective on certain things in life. Deteriorating mental health and relying on substances to cope once consumed him but now he uses emotions felt to fuel his creativity to produce beautiful works of art.
